March 19, 2021IDI, LLC on Hate and Acts of Violence Against the AAPI Community

On Tuesday, March 16th, 2021 eight people—six of whom were Asian women—were murdered in horrific shootings in Atlanta. We at IDI, LLC both grieve and condemn this senseless violence and tragic taking of life.

Sadly, this is the latest in a series of violent attacks against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the United States, many of which have received little attention from the media. Stop AAPI Hate announced that it has received nearly 3,800 reports of hate incidents against Asian Americans in the past year.

Hate crimes continue to rise in this country and it is more important than ever to support the communities and individuals targeted both by acts of violence and the rhetoric of hate.

UPDATE (September 7, 2022): Since this original posting on March 19, 2021, Stop AAPI Hate has released additional data as part of Two Years and Thousands of Voices (their Year 2 report), which continues to spotlight the rising number of incidents reported to the organization over the previous two years.

The link to the first report (2020-2021 National Report) in the original post was updated to link to Stop AAPI Hate’s web page for that report.
