Our Team: Mylon Jamar Kirksy, Ed.D.

Dr. Mylon Jamar Kirksy is an IDI Qualified Administrator and an IDI Qualifying Seminar Instructor. Dr. Kirksy has over 20 years of professional experience in higher education working in several student affairs areas such as: residence life; Greek life; and housing services. Mylon received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science and Public Relations from Illinois State University in Normal, IL. He received his Master of Communication and Information Studies in Organizational Communication from Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. His Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership and Administration was received from the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA.

In 2013, Dr. Kirksy established Sidebar Education Consulting Group, LLC with two colleagues. In 2016, he became the sole owner and serves as the founder and chief operations officer of the company.

In addition to being an entrepreneur, Dr. Kirksy serves as the senior director of Residence Life for the University of Texas at Austin and holds the rank of assistant professor of practice in the College of Education and in the College of Liberal Arts.  He teaches the following courses: Higher Education Law, Campus Cultures, and Foundations of Intercultural Competency.

Dr. Kirksy’s areas of expertise are in organizational leadership, development and change management; student and staff learning and development; research, assessment, and evaluation; communications; and intercultural competency development. Dr. Kirksy is a certified behavioral-based interviewer, a graduate of the Institute for Facilities Management and a qualified administrator of the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) that assesses individuals’ intercultural competency. In 2017, he was asked to join the faculty at IDI, LLC as am IDI Qualifying Seminar Trainer to train other individuals to be IDI Qualified Administrators. His professional affiliations are with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA); the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International (ACUHO-I); and the Association of Physical Plant Administrators (APPA).
