About
Dr. Joanne K. Reeck is an IDI Qualified Administrator, IDI Qualifying Seminar Instructor, executive leader, educator, and consultant with nearly 25 years of experience in intercultural development, leadership, facilitation, and organizational change. As a faculty member with IDI, LLC, she facilitates Qualifying Seminars for professionals from around the world, preparing them to administer the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) and support meaningful intercultural growth within their organizations and communities.
Joanne currently serves as Vice President for Equity and Inclusion at Augsburg University in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she is a member of the university's executive leadership team. In this role, she provides strategic leadership for institution-wide initiatives involving organizational culture, equity and inclusion, leadership development, accessibility, and institutional accountability. Her career in higher education has included leadership positions spanning student affairs, organizational development, and institutional transformation. She also teaches undergraduate and graduate leadership courses, bringing together theory, research, and practical experience to help develop the next generation of leaders.
In 2014, Joanne founded United for Change Consulting, LLC, where she continues to serve as Founder and Lead Consultant. Through her consulting practice, she works with organizations across the education, nonprofit, government, and business sectors to strengthen intercultural competence, develop effective leaders, address systemic inequities, and build organizational cultures where people can thrive. Her approach combines research-informed practices, thoughtful dialogue, experiential learning, and practical strategies that move organizations from awareness to meaningful action.
Joanne's passion for this work is deeply personal. Born and raised in the Midwest by two white women, she grew up in a predominantly white community as a biracial child who was perceived by others as Black. Navigating the complexities of race, culture, identity, and belonging shaped her understanding of how individuals experience the world differently and why the ability to be fully oneself matters. These experiences continue to inform her commitment to creating spaces where people can examine their assumptions, engage across differences, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
Joanne earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and her Master of Arts in Higher Education from the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. Her doctoral research explored the experiences of Black students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), with particular attention to racial identity development, belonging, community, and the transformative power of educational environments that affirm students' identities.
At the heart of Joanne's work is a belief that intercultural competence is not simply about understanding differences; it is about developing the awareness, skills, and intentionality necessary to build authentic relationships, lead effectively, and create environments where people are valued in the fullness of their identities.
Outside of her professional work, Joanne enjoys traveling, camping, attending MN sports games, and spending time with her son and rescue dog.
